The MOA was signed recently in Davao City by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Davao City chapter, the Ateneo Legal Services Office, the University of Mindanao Legal Aid Office, and the Southern Philippines Federation of Labor (SPFL).
-Provide OFWs and other interested parties with information materials, including appropriate laws, relative to overseas employment and illegal recruitment;
Utah Legal Services would tell the a woman calling for legal assistance that they could only help if the woman were willing to make an allegation of abuse. Jane said she was amazed at how often that within 5 or 10 minutes of referring women to Utah Legal Services the women called back saying, I need to report abuse on the part of my husband (or ex-husband, or boyfriend, or ex-boyfriend). Legal Services and their associates should get no public funding.
-Conduct seminars on the laws, rules and regulations, issuances and latest jurisprudence on overseas employment for lawyers, members and para-legal workers of these organizations.
My experience with Legal Services (via Utah Legal Services and their associates, Legal Center for Victims of Domestic Violence) shows why Legal Services Corporation should be unfunded.
